Almost every hostel management product in India is a dashboard for the owner. The residents never touch it. That sounds reasonable until you look at where an owner’s time actually goes.
Collecting rent is a few hours a month. Answering questions about rent is every day. How much do I owe. Did you get my payment. Can you send the receipt again, I deleted it. When is the water coming back. Each one takes ninety seconds and there are dozens of them, and they arrive individually, at night, on WhatsApp.
It makes you faster at looking up the answer. It does not stop the question being asked. You are still the lookup service for your own building, just with a better index. The workload only drops when the person asking can answer it themselves.
Every one of these is a message you no longer receive.
A resident who can see their own ledger disputes it far less often, because the record is not something you are asserting at them — it is something they have been looking at all along. Payment disputes usually come from information asymmetry, and this removes it.
Most do not — they are owner-only dashboards. Hostel Mitra is one of the few with a separate resident app. Tenants see their dues and full payment passbook, every saved receipt, complaints they have raised with photos and status, their own eKYC, announcements, a hostel guide, a digital residence card, and a checkout request.
